N13 : Thirteenth lesson S00-TITLE : Back at the flat S01 : You had a job interview today, didn't you Dave? So how did it go? S02 : Terrible! Every time I opened my mouth, I put my foot in it. S03 : It can't have been that bad, surely? What went wrong? S04 : Everything, Raja. I made a complete and utter fool of myself. S05 : First, the interviewer asked me how I'd deal with certain problems. S06 : "I'll describe a situation to you," he said, "and you suggest solutions to me. S07 : You catch an employee sleeping at his or her desk. What would you do?" S08 : "I'd ask them if the coffee machine was broken, of course", I replied. S09 : He said: "You'll be given lots of responsibilities. Can you cope?" S10 : I told him that in my last job, I was always held responsible if there was a cock-up. S11 : Then he goes: "Do you think you could handle a variety of work?". S12 : And I go: "I should be able to. I've had ten jobs in the past eight months". S13 : After that, he asked me where I expected to be in ten years' time. S14 : And I said, since it was Monday, that I'd probably be on the golf course. S15 : But I think the last straw was when he asked me if I had any questions. S16 : I asked him to explain the benefit package to me and to tell me whether I could have a year's salary in advance. S17 : He can't have been very pleased. What did he say? S18 : Nothing. For five minutes! Then he told me to get out. T00-TRANSLATE : Exercise: Translate T01 : We made complete and utter fools of ourselves on the golf course. T02 : So how did the job interview go today? Terribly.
