Right out of the blue. S03 : Oh you poor thing. Tell me what happened. You weren't rude to the boss, were you? S04 : No, nothing like that. I got called into the head of personnel's office just after nine. I didn't know what to expect. S05 : She said the company had had a bad year and that they needed to downsize. S06 : So even though I was brilliant and they loved me and so forth, they were letting me go. S07 : She told me to clear my desk and be out of the building by noon. They don't beat about the bush, do they? S08 : They're axing two hundred jobs in London and another fifty-five in Leicester. S09 : Don't worry. Someone with your skills will have no problem finding another job. You can take your pick! S10 : But I don't want a McJob. I want a proper job with a decent salary, a good pension and a company car. S11 : Yeah but beggars can't be choosers. Anyway, too much ambition results in promotion to a job you can't do. S12 : I don't know the first thing about looking for work. I've been with that bloody firm ever since I left uni. S13 : Well don't just sit there complaining. Get off your bum and do something! S14 : Go down to the job centre and check the vacancies. Get up on the web and start looking. S15 : And don't forget to network. You've got so many contacts in the business that someone is bound to know about an opening somewhere. S16 : Hi there. What's up with Dave? He seems to be in a black mood. S17 : He got fired this morning, so be nice to him, okay? S18 : Oh is that all?
